Ann, Liz, and Jorga decided years ago that when they retired, they would all move to the beach. Now their dream has come true. Life was all they had hoped for, until they discover a dead man, not only dead but naked, on their lawn. Now, instead of lazy days on the beach, they have to deal with two rather charismatic policemen and some very unsavory characters. Home invasions and personal attacks were not what they bargained on. Their reactions go from zany to desperate as they deal with situations the classroom had not prepared them for. Shoe fetishes and an infatuated cop push their friendships to the limit as they struggle to learn why they have been singled out for persecution.

This is the second book I’ve read by this superb author.Karan Bajaj has a very special voice and talent, telling his story in a simple, dynamic manner that immediately plunges you into a fictive dream. After a paragraph or two, you’ll forget you’re even reading.
Mr. Bajaj manages to make the subject of business studies in India a fascinating, entertaining, and unputdownable read.
Written in the first person, the protagonist, Samrat, will charm you with his carefree, outside-the-box perspective on the world. Despite his immaturity and self-absorbed nature, Samrat knows something is off-key with his life. With uncanny determination he sets out to find meaning and purpose in the most unorthodox manner conceivable.
The entire story has a youthful innocence and immaturely about it. It makes you feel young again as you jump into the skin of this Indian-American misfit.
KEEP OFF THE GRASS is a superb breakout novel and makes for a light, entertaining read for anyone who is young or ever was.

Keep Off the Grass edition by Rita Silver Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
Sarat, an American, Yale valedictorian, of Indian immigrant parents who leaves his job at Goldman Sachs in the USA to study at a B college in India. He smokes a lot of pot and drinks a lot of booze, tries meditation and "surprisingly" does poorly in school before finding happiness. The book is a page turner. This is a new writer to watch.
For anybody whose familiarity with India goes as far as 'Slumdog Millioaire',Karan Bajaj is must reading. His first novel 'Keep Off the Grass' about the adventures of Indian American Samrat Ratan a number cruncher at Goldman Sachs who decides to go back to grad school in India. Bajaj is able to meld a hip Americanese style with an Indian background-and brings out an excellent -and comical story(getting arrested by Indian cops, for example) about Samrat's growth along the way.
Having read Johnny Gone Down, I thought to read the writer's first novel,Best part of this book I think is that its protagonist is a dystopian character, kind of megalomaniac, self absorbed, always referring to his achievements whenever caught off guard in critical situation. So,You don't really like the character and things he does, but you at some level identify with him.He reminisces Nikhil Gogol (Namesake )or Holden Caulfield ( the catcher in the rye).
Things which are described in novel, I think having been in similar situation I could identify with many things, college life in India, work culture, friendship. Its very accurate. There is also a special surprise for you, if you are a Ruskin Bond fans, like me.
"I reviewed a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review"
I will summarize rest of things in following adjectives page-turner,entertaining,realistic,pulp,loquacious,go for it.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
This is the third book I have read by this author and I have enjoyed them all.
In this book I like the setup of a successful Wall Street number cruncher that decides to go on a growth experience and rediscover his roots in India. It addresses a lot of different topics, from succeeding in an ultra highly competitive academic arena, to sex, to finding and using drugs, classmate suicide, etc.
I was most able to connect with him in terms of the academic struggles he has. Adjusting to such a new environment of competition and feeling lost in the shuffle can be a hard thing for someone who has always been in the top of the class without much effort. I can also relate to finding what would be so many people's dream job, and finding it distinctly unfulfilling.
This novel got me asking myself some questions that I haven't in far too long. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and look forward to reading anything this author publishes in the future.

This was a totally different read for myself. I am not into business or Wall Street but I was really into this book. It really was a new story line for myself, with some ganja, sex and foul language. I have been fascinated by stories taking place in India lately and have enjoyed both books I have read by Karan Bajaj. This is a book about Samrat who is wanting to find out more about himself by venturing to India where his parents left to set up a life in the US. Samrat decides to head off to India on a whim to take courses at a business school where he meets some very interesting new friends. Smoking pot, drinking and not sleeping is what Samrat and his two friends do during the two year program. I love how his one friend can smoke up all the time, skip classes and still ace everything. This journey takes so many turns and keeps you glued to the pages to see what else can possibly happen. Will Samrat find what he is looking for or will he float through two years in India lost. I really enjoyed the characters in this book and found the story line to have a steady flow to it. I'll admit to having a ah ha moment when I figured out the play on words with the title but closer to the end there is another ooh maybe that is what the author means. The story is told by Samrat as a memory of his journey.
If you are looking for something different than the normal mystery, fantasy or contemporary romance this is a fun read about college life in India while just trying to find oneself and being truly happy.
I give this book a 4 out of 5 stars.
Darn good for a first novel from this author.
Took me back to my B school days. Have read it three times and enjoyed it every time. Two thumbs up )
